Two Minute Drill:

#LiveLikeChris

What’s up Kaizenovators, Happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill. Today’s topic of conversation is “Live Like Chris.” Today’s topic is not so happy. Just last week, the chiropractic profession, the planet, the universe, and humanity lost an amazing soul. Dr. Chris Anderson passed away unexpectedly.

In Memory of Dr. Chris Anderson

I just wanted to give Dr. Chris the due respect that he deserves because Chris Anderson was one of the nicest people I’d ever met in my entire life.

I’ll never forget when I was speaking in Wisconsin last year. I had a fair number of hours that I was speaking, and I spoke for, I think, four hours in the morning and then had an afternoon session with my good friend Mr. Brad Cost. Chris heard that my voice was raspy, and he brought me some hot tea with lemon. That’s just who Chris was.

Chris was joyful, kind, considerate, and caring. He even had charities that I knew nothing about. I found out about them this past weekend in conversations with some of our other friends, Heather and Emily, just talking about how much we couldn’t believe he was gone and how much we were going to miss him.

I started learning even more about this remarkable human being. This idea that we should be living like Chris, that we should live with joy, kindness, compassion, fullness, and a big smile on our face all the time, I think, is a really good way to live and allows for Chris’s legacy to live on.

You’ll be seeing a lot of hashtag #livelikeChris in the coming months, years, and decades because Chris, you set the example for all of us.

We love you. We miss you, but you’ll stay with us forever.

That’s this week’s Two Minute Drill, you guys. Talk to y’all next week.

Two Minute Drill:

Back to Basics: Key Lessons from Seeing Patients Again

What’s up Kaizenovators, Happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill. Today’s topic of conversation is lessons learned. I’m here in one of my locations—our Fairfax office. Over the last several weeks, I’ve been covering the practices because my doctor’s on vacation and we’re in between coverage doctors.

Lessons from the Field

I’ve been covering and learned some important lessons. It’s been a decade and a half since I’ve seen patients regularly, and there were some lessons I wanted to share with you chiropractors out there who are in it.

The first lesson was that I started every day with a stated intention and made my team do the same. I wanted to hear what their intention was for the day because I wanted to start the day with a clear idea, a concept in our heads about how we were going to act and behave to get the desired results we were looking for.

The second thing is I was focused. Hyper-focused. There are things that must be done every day. One, take amazing care of your patients. Two, get your notes and documentation done. Three, respond to emails and handle administrative tasks, etc.

Now, I’m as ADD as they come, but I knew that I needed to get my stuff done and didn’t want to leave it until the end of the day. No procrastination—just be very focused on the things that needed to get done.

Lastly, having fun. I wanted to have fun with my team. It doesn’t have to be stressful seeing patients. In fact, I said to Cat, “Oh my God, this is so much easier than my regular job.” Seeing patients, doing notes, responding to emails, and having some meetings with the team—it’s not too difficult.

So, those are the lessons learned. One, make sure you start your day with intention. Two, be really focused on the job at hand. And three, have some f***** fun.

All right. That’s this week’s Two Minute Drill, you guys. I’ll talk to y’all next week.

Two Minute Drill:

Pushing Through Barriers in Your Practice

What’s up Kaizenovators, Happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill. Today I’m with my good buddy, Dr. Roden Stewart. I’m back on Rod’s incredible property here on Chincoteague Island. I visited the practice today because we had a great discussion around how we level up and take our practice to the next level. Dr. Rod had his best year ever last year! Now, we’re focusing on breaking through those barriers to reach the next level.

The Next Level

As business owners, we all face challenges when we reach a certain level. Sometimes the challenges get bigger, and we need to find more solutions, better solutions, to break through that ceiling and get to the next level.

So, what does it take to get to that next level for you, Rod?

“It takes support. I’ve got this Dr. Jay right here and this whole team, but it also takes perseverance. There’s a cliché that says, ‘You don’t stop till the miracle happens,’ and that is true. It has been true in my practice that you just keep going when the going gets tough because the light is sometimes right around the corner.”

It’s all about support, and we all need it. I have my groups that I belong to, my coaching groups, people who teach me something every single day. And also just knowing that we’re going to persevere, we’re going to be gritty, and we’re going to break through to that next level.

That’s this week’s Two Minute Drill.

I ran long last week, so this week I’ll end a little shorter. But, hey, if you ever get down to Chincoteague Island, you gotta check this place out because it is beautiful.

Two Minute Drill: Over 20 Years

What’s up Kaizenovators, happy Tuesday Two Minute Drill! Today I’m coming to you from Delaware City, Delaware. Last week we celebrated Dr. Allen Huffman, one of our clinic directors, 21-year anniversary with the company. So, today’s topic of conversation is all about longevity.

Longevity

Last week, we were really fortunate because we got to celebrate the 21-year anniversary of one of our clinic directors, Dr. Allen Huffman. It got me thinking, what are the key drivers that made that happen?

So, here’s what I’m going to share with you.

  • Key Driver #1

First of all, it’s first who, then what? It’s the right person in that seat. He clearly aligns with our core values. He is always thinking about the success of the patients, the success of the team, the success of the clinic, and the success of the company.

  • Key Driver #2

Incredible loyalty. Not every moment that we’ve had in the past 21 years has all been roses and butterflies. There have been some challenging times, but he’s been loyal every single step of the way, always standing by my side, our side to make sure that we could overcome literally any challenge that we face.

  • Key Driver #3

It’s about creating the right kind of culture and environment, a supportive, caring, and loving environment to ensure that he actually wanted to stay 21 years and hopefully several more years down the road before he ultimately retires.

So, when you think about creating longevity for people on your team, in your practice, think about the right person, right seat. Do they align with your core values? Make sure that inherently they are loyal and want to get through any challenge with you, whatever challenges you face. Lastly, do whatever you can to create a supportive, caring, and loving environment. That will create longevity for the people on your team.

That’s this week’s two-minute drill. Talk to you all next week.

Two Minute Drill: Building A Tower

This week Dr. Jay is bringing you the Two Minute Drill from the Willis Tower in Chicago. The Willis Tower, formerly Sears Tower, is the third tallest building in the United States. What does it take to build one of the tallest buildings? Listen to this week’s TMD to hear how the elements of building a tower to withstand wind, rain, and snow translates to building a successful practice.

Three Important Elements

There are three important elements in constructing a tower. A vision, planning and engineering, and execution. These elements are also important in building a successful practice. Ask yourself,

    • Do I have a clear vision? If not, what must be true to create one?
    • Have I planned and executed that clear vision? If not, how do I reverse engineer from where I want to be and where I am right now
    • What must be true to execute? Do I have the right people on the bus, in the right seats to help me get to my vision?

A vision is necessary to understand where you want to be and is the foundation of your building. You then need to create your blueprints and the plan of how exactly you are going to construct your building. Lastly, no one can do it on there own. It’s important that you surround yourself with the right people who will help you execute your plan.

If you have a clear vision, planned how you will execute that vision, and have the right people in the right seats you will end up building something remarkable.
